The use of art is one of the many ways to express the emotion that an artist feels. This is often times expressed through the use of theme. The theme in which one artist chooses to portray can change how their audience views their collection. Through my collection I express the passion and different whimsical elements that are portrayed though the use of my theme of narrative.
My theme of narrative is expressed through the use of pathos, which is an emotional appeal coming from the speaker, which in this case would be the artist.  This is expressed throughout the many projects in which I portrayed hearts on several of my projects. These hearts are used to portray emotions such as passion and love. This is first shown in my tall project. This is shown in order to show the passion and hard work that I put into the project and the purpose of what it was made for. This project in particular was made for my sister for christmas, which is why I included the glaze the way I did. I included the heart as a way of showing the love that I put into the project. This is secondly shown throughout my extra choice, which is a mug with a big heart on it. The use of this heart, much like all other hearts is meant to go towards the project as I was making it. The use of the three-dimensional heart on the front of the mug is included in order to represent growing love. The way that I applied the heart to the project by making it appear three-dimensional helps to allow the project to stand out, therefore making the point of the project more prominent and making the love that I put into the project more effective.
The use of narrative also helps to show hidden themes through the use of symbolism. The symbolism is used in order to show the importance behind the projects structure and appearance. This is first portrayed throughout my collection as I made one of choice projects. My choice project, which is a vase with hand printsmade all over it symbolizes which makes it so that the hand-prints are seen as representing the care that was put into the project. This is expressed through the displaying of the hands which symbolize the many steps that went into making the project. This reflects my theme because it tells a story of how the project was made, which makes the project seem a lot more important, which forces it to be seen as an essential piece of my collection. This idea of symbolism is also shown throughout my set of three. My set of three displays a teapot, teacup, and plate. This teapot, which has 3-d stars displayed all over it, helps to show the many ideas that went into making the project. I then contrasted this against two plain cups, which were just dipped in clear, in order to show that the teapot, which is the main piece, moves the ideas along in making the set in order to show the importance of the work that went into the project. This shows the moving ideas and thoughts that went along throughout the set as I made the projects, which makes the piece seem like an essential piece of my collection.
Overall my theme of narrative shows the importance of the steps that went into making the projects. The use of the emotional and symbolic meanings behind the projects allows their importance to be a lot more significant. Which overall makes the projects a lot more appealing.

Thesis: The use of narrative throughout the collection that I have produced in ceramics allows the connection between art and emotion to become more prominent.
1(Topic sentence): The use of narrative first appeals to the viewer  through the use of pathos, which is an appeal to the emotion of the people.
2(CD) The use of ethos is shown first throughout my set of three. The stars on the teapot are used to express the idea of dreams. These stars, which are contrasted against the plain cup and plate, are used to show the emotions that come along with dreaming compared to the lack of emotion which comes from those who don't dream.
3(CM) These are used to evoke emotion and make emotional connections with those who are viewing the projects
2(CD) Use of hearts on several projects
3(CM) The use of hearts shows passion and love and makes my projects seem a lot more meaningful.
2(CD) Use of cute sayings on projects
3(CM) my set of three which stated "I love mom" showed pathos through the emotional appeal towards the audience who will be seeing my art. The emotional appeal makes the story behind how the project was made more appearant.
1(Topic Sentence):The use of narrative can also be used to make people happy through the use of funny aspects such as characterization
    2(CD): My pig cup
3(CM): This cup showed narration as it characterized a simple mug as something with a much larger cuteness factor. This makes the project more unique and more appealing to people.
Conclusion: Overall the use of narrative throughout my collection of ceramics projects helps to create an overall positive effect and makes my audience be more inclined to view the projects I have made.

My theme I have decided is going to be narratives. Narratives are frequently used throughout many works of art in order to portray a story, which is done through the use of ethos. The story that is being portrayed is better seen because the use of narrative allows the people seeing it to not only see the piece for the visual aspect, but also see it emotionally.
